77 KZ1000A

I am going to pick up my 1980 KZ750H/LTD from Redline Cycle today. This bike is my patience bike to ride while I complete my two on going projects. The 1979 Honda CB650 stock/modified and of course the 1977 KZ1000A. The KZ1000 is currently on hold because the rear brake lever mount was missing. Well, thanks to Redline, I'll be picking up the 750 and the KZ100A frame section with the brake lever mount. Now that I have the piece I need to figure out how to get it welded on nice and straight. Here is a pic of the 750.

Honestly I was even more impressed when I picked her up today. The rubber is even nice. There are a few small flaws but its nothing that couldn't be addressed in a few hours... The front master cylinder has the paint peeled off where it leaked once, there is a small scratch on the tank up close to the steering stem and the wiring under the seat needs a little cleaning up. None of this stuff will stop me from riding her for a season.

So the 750 is named Patience, in light of the fact that it's meant to be a bike to ride while I finish the KZ1000A and the CB650. Luckily it is just that, a turn key rider to keep me smilin while I build the other bikes. Here are some pics of the KZ1000A in various states starting with how it looked when I bought it for $1000.00.



It kind of looks like she's ready to roll but once I started looking close, it was obvious this thing was going to be torn down. The most glaring issue at first were the rear sets. They are great for super bike or a cafe racer but the KZ1000A is neither of those. Plus my feet are kinda messed up and the tiny pegs would have been too small for me.

This is about where the urge to rebuild the thing from the ground up got me. The previous owner had done a good job of getting her together to ride for the summer of '08 but he didnt quite take it all the way.

Two of my buddies, Norman and Chuck right after we pulled the 1980 MKII motor out. When I bought the bike I had no idea that I didnt have a stock 1977 motor.
