I'm doing a project with a new 530 countershaft.
I'm using a ZX10 rear wheel with 525? Factory rear sprocket.
What's the differance from 530 to 525?
Thanks

Now for the pop quiz what does 525 chain equal?
Edit, I'll answer my own question since z1kzonly asked. 525 is 5/8" by 5/16" wide. It's an oddball size. Better to convert to 530, much more common.

Have the axle nut loose enough to allow the chain slack adjusters to move the wheel.
Get the chain running straight.
Place the straight edge on the chain & let it rest against the inside edge of the link plates.
Measure the gap from the straight edge to the tire, front & back. That will show you if your wheel and chain are running parallel.

cool larry. its ganna be a week or so before i get my rear sprocket, so i am nervouse about ordering my front offset sprocket until the rear one gets here. When you get the chain and sprockets on there, run a narrow straight edge down the chain and let it extend back past the rear wheel.

where have i heard this before? oh yeah same thing i keep telling him,but it hasnt sunk in! :laugh:Do not order your front sprocket until you mount the rear, get everything straight like Larry said, and measure the offset YOU need for YOUR bike. Every bike/build is going to be slightly different and the offset of your bike may be different. The key is not to rely on what worked for someone else, but figuring out what's going to work for you. In my book, that's most of the fun!
Still recovering, some days are better than others.

If you do this correctly, you shouldn't need more than a 5/8 off set. If you do, you screwed up somewhere along the way.... look it over again

once i get the rear sprocket, whats the best way to figure the offset....just a straight edge?I bought the 5/8 and ended up taking 1/8" off. It had a 1/8 shoulder on it so it was easy.
