I am hoping that 1/16" out of alignment won't matter.
Unless u are a very talented track racer that can achieve high lean angles, 1/16" will make NO DIF. 1/4" is common.

I made two phone calls yesterday, one to A.P.E., and one to Z1E. The call to A.P.E. was to order tranny bearings. I was very suprised to have them show up this morning :woohoo:
The call to Z1E didn't go so well at first. I called to basically order the remainder of the timing components (idler gears, rubber isolators, chain guide....). I have a new timing chain already, but I figured I would simply call and ask them to send me all of the other timing system wear items. I did not consult a microfiche or parts diagram as I usualy do, this time relying on the knowledge of the salesman to sell me the parts I would need. The salesman (Rob I think?) reacted very differently than I had anticipated, and basically told me he didn't have time to help me place my order with such a broad request, and to look up what I needed and call back. I was shocked, and told him so. I thanked him and said I would do the research and get back with an exact parts list. To his credit and a show of absolute professionalism, he called me back 15 minutes later and apologised for his behavior. It takes alot of charachter to call back an anonymous client and apologise like that. For that, I thank Z1E for employing salesmen of charachter and honor I still need to put that parts list together, but just looking at the rough cost its somewhere around $300-$500 worth of parts.

adam could you just go ahead and make a list of those timing components, .
quantities, part numbers and such, then just go ahead and post the list to help everyone else (including rob(i think))out. :pinch:
because i have an upcoming project that i need to purchase those exact timing components.
and,
somehow i feel like i might have a better shopping experience if i just call them with a list.

Oh the trials and tribulations of having a KZ650 made in June '76.
Also, how important would you say is replacing the rubber dampers on the top idler sprocket? I know APE has billet blocks for it but I'm unsure if thats necessary.
I think this is still roughly on topic, but this is Adam's thread, which goes off topic more than most so I'm not worried haha.
Here's what I'm talking about. The shafts numbered 9 and 11 come on my bike as plain shafts, no steps, no dampers. This is a part diagram for a 1977 too, even Kawi doesn't acknowledge my situation.
