your weld in the front looks good. you should make a sigle pass like that and then "open" the metal like a book and see if she breaks, or cracks. then youll know if your heat is correct.

It looks exotic and sexy as hell, but I have a long way to go before I'm ready to risk blowing $100 per primary tube in material costs if I screw up

ive heard you need to heat titanium before you weld it,did you pre heat? Thanks wireman, but it's nothing compared to the quality of experienced welder would produce. As can be seen in the photo, I ran a bead on the other side as well and you can see the chalky white oxidation that severely weakens the weld. To do it right I need to protect the back of the weld with shielding gas just like the front. To answer your question, YES, a Ti header is a goal of mine
ive welded steel and stainless but never aluminum/titanium

the ti welding is starting to look good.i need to tee off my regulator so that i can conveniently backpurge.then all i need is some of that stainless foil and tape to try my hand at welding some ti.
i really like the pretty colors .
i just finished sleeveing, bore and hone and port matching a lt250r zuke cylinder, and making gane some custom axle spacers and have three jobs to turn out this week.not to mention it is getting to be boating season and i have a 347 ci.stroker ford engine that wants my attention, and i bought another front end to use for my z1r frontend conversion.so now i am a set of chinese rotors, custom axle and modified upper triple away from being able to bolt it up  .
i am eager to try my hand at ti welding tho,so keep posting and maybe i will get off my a$$ and tee into my reg. for a little backpurge action.
i do have a gas tank leak that needs tigged,a little back purge sure wouldn't hurt that effort, hmmm .
