You also need the shafts for the roller and idler sprockets and the 4 dampers for the idler assembly. Thats if you want to replace the shafts.

Listen, your BUILD gets off topic!

glad to see you are taking big swings again...this thing is going nice...

i had some simple mix ups and had to e-mail "Chris" a few times...my tone ,and then in response, his almost, i thought, were getting stepped up as we searched for the mix up and correction...to his and Z! ent's credit i too got a phone call and a nice message updating my orders mix up and some solutions...

i sent em back and was credited and now was helped to some directions for my next order on the phone today by Chris and i hung up feeling pleasant about dealing with that top notch place.....i also earlier in the day talked to a new employee named Mike,he has been a life long cycle guy and sounded jazzed and knee deep in learning the Z1 ent way of sales....he did not even stumble when he told me..."you know what i'm still learning let's ask the other guys" ,in regards to a component source i was researching......

all in all feels good to be back on ordering terms and cool to be able to work (bumpy is good too sometimes ) stuff out with those guys......

more pics.....

i did not know you even rode bikes anymore these days :woohoo:

To Z1E's continued credit, Rob emailed me a comprehensive list of all the o-rings not included in the gasket and seal kits as well as all the timing components required. The grand total on the preliminary invoice was almost $500, but part of that was the use of OEM parts on the list. Substituting Liska componants will reduce this a bit.

Tri, it does feel good to be looking forward. I'm still cleaning my garage out a bit and organizing to make more room for all my composite experiments/molds. Tomorrow I'll swing by Fastenal and pick up an outboard bearing, as well as some small diameter tubing. I want to bolt my cases back into the frame and get the o.b. bearing support fitted, and the frame mounts for it welded in. Just about time to take a fork off and have the paint supply store mix me up some matching single stage polyurethane. Now that I have new tranny bearings and a Z1 crank, its just about time to assemble the lower end, and once I get the rest of the timing chain components I can button up the top end. Ever so slowly..........

I guess that I used to be a parts guy for too long. I always call Z1 with a list of part numbers, prices and descriptions by my side. They still seem to manage to suggest a better/cheaper solution many times.

It's good to see that you are still moving forward. I'm jonesing for some SSSA goodness. BTW one of my buds at work stuck his old Ducati 916 back together. I told him that he better not turn his back on that bike, or he might find it sitting on blocks.

This is probably the easiest thread to get mark's attention and also the one most prone to going off topic, so I'll post here. Mark, I notice you always talk about a yosh sidecover. I happen to have a plastic one I made on the rapid prototype machine at school. I think we should start casting them. Anyone into casting?

I owe Les some progress on his dash, but my bike needs a little lovin' too from time to time.

I SUPPOSE a tangent can be permitted Tyler, but only if I can get at the front of the line for one of those beveled points covers :woohoo:

Josh, no need to strip your coworkers 916 (unless you want to start planning your 750 project  ), I'll be putting up some progress in the comming weeks, on my bike as well as Les's and Leons dashes. You're up to 3 dashes, aren't you Leon? You Z1R coveting bastard!

T_Dub wrote: I wonder if the KZ1000 has two different sets? Because the 650 did. My 650 came without those rubber rectangular prisms to keep the shafts in place, and as a result the bottom rubber roller which is rubber was chewed to pieces. I now have a later model shaft with rubber dampers on that shaft. The other two are still plain shafts, but those are sprockets and hence align themselves.

Oh the trials and tribulations of having a KZ650 made in June '76.

Also, how important would you say is replacing the rubber dampers on the top idler sprocket? I know APE has billet blocks for it but I'm unsure if thats necessary.

I think this is still roughly on topic, but this is Adam's thread, which goes off topic more than most so I'm not worried haha.

Here's what I'm talking about. The shafts numbered 9 and 11 come on my bike as plain shafts, no steps, no dampers. This is a part diagram for a 1977 too, even Kawi doesn't acknowledge my situation.

The early KZ650 Kawasaki Parts Catalogs show the configuration you bike has (see pic); it's gone in the later catalogs.
