Well the move to Maine has separated me from my bike again, at least until after the cold season passes. I did manage to grab a spare engine and some other odds and ends to start on the bottom end of that project.
I plan to go to 750cc
switch to a late style gpz750 head with the bath tub combustion chambers
go to a hyvo cam chain (yes i know this means chaning the crank)
change the crank, and when I have the new crank out have a little weight taken off and maybe the journals nitrided.
swap the tranny for a 6 speed, I know the kz550 are close, I have heard early zx600 will work, but I want to take a hard look at the gpx750 and its tranny, (yes gpx not gpz) it was a 100 hp bike with a 6 speed hoping it will swap with little work.
install the carillo rods I picked up on e-bay
ape cylinder studs and head bolts if the budget allows, they can always be done in when I get to the top end next year.
get my hands on some of them tool steel wrist pins APE sells... that is if they don't tell me to change them when I put in new pistons, if that is the case the old pins will do till next year.
install gpz oil pan and make some braided steel lines up for the cooler.
CLEAN everything! this motor was cheap, and it looks cheap!

one bench down, i have hit a few road blocks already...
one being that my woman looked at the bench and said "that would make a nice coffee table if you sanded it and stained it.
Well now I have an excuse to buy an orbital sander.
Will need more wood to finish the second work bench... the second bench will be built stouter, because that is where I plan on the engine sitting.
