No I ain't selling Mine Never. But its too bad I found a 1977 KZ650 on Craiglist for $250.00 that was only missing a few parts,The main one being the Title. Would like to make sure a title could be had.

hear your plight. i bought my 78 with a "lost title". apparently the guy took the bike as part trade for a car he sold to his folks, mom thinks the title is misplaced and would be happy to fill out a lost title form. that was 2 months ago, called 3 times a week since. She is just getting done with finals (older college student) and will get the paperwork to me asap. Will see what transpires. As for getting a lost title in oregon, as long as there is no lein or such it should be fairly easy to get ahold of the owner of record and get a replacement title. There are some barriers, such as death of the owner or not being able to find the person, but it is easier than getting an out of state lost title. Believe me, you don't want to get into that mess o worms. Oregon DMV has a list of ways to get information on owners of record and such, they charge a bit for the information, but it should be worth it to get a working title.

I've bought many bikes without a title and have had no problem getting them titled.

It depends on the state as to what's needed to register a bike without a title.

In CT for example, anything 1981 or older does not need a title, they just do a vin check.

I swear to God, it's like I live in a trailer of common sense, and stare out the window at a tornado of stupidity.

In Kansas if buying a bike without a title one just as well plan to part it out. I think the legislature used the moto "Abandon all hope ye who enter here" when it came to the lost title process.

NJ's the same, almost impossible. The lady at dmv gave me "the look" then gave me a packet 2 inches thick. Title search, state police, registered letter, public notice in newspaper..

Cali is not too bad for the lein sale route, but doing an application for title was a joke. I bought a Honda CB for 100.00 and the CHP wanted it in running/roadworthy condition before they would inspect the VIN for the title process.

On a dirtbike frame they were a little better, again had to have it in running/operating condition before CHP would inspect, but it worked out as far as titles go.

Depending on the bike and price I might do it again, but if the bike is in almost running/running condition it should have a title anyways.

I've avoided lost-title purchases in Oregon because I've heard that it is a royal PITA to get it titled here, especially if the last titled owner cannot be found/contacted. This happened to a co-worker, and his advice was to avoid no-title sales at all costs.

If I remember right, in his case, they could not find the last titled owner, so he had to file some papers and wait for a specified period of time (I don't remember the details, but I remember him telling me the story, and it sounded like a lot more time and hassle than I ever want to deal with, even for a "good deal").

Before jumping on it, call the DMV and make sure you understand what you are getting into.

in RI, anything past ten years old doesnt need a title, but you will need the reg card of the guy you are buying it from......
