thanks for asking about the bike, old man rock. I was starting to think everyone was gonna want pics of my butt.
need not worry about the condition of my a** or my ability to handle the pain.
The actual design of my frame is gonna have to wait untill I'm done cause I don't have the whole thing thought out yet.one piece @ a time for aesthetics and function then I brace it as I see fit. I can tell you that I think mines gonna be beefier than most hardtails I've seen. went to the local metal supply @ start of project (mayo welding- they specialize in natural gas pipeline Fabrication) with a piece from the lower frame. they sell some that they sell as 3/4 i.d. but is about 25/32. the O.D is 1 3/64". 7/64 thick. the lower frame rails on the KZ are
ID 15/16
OD 1 1/8
3/32 thick. keep in mind that all these numbers were figured with my $7 pair of calipers from Harbor Freight. basically the new pipe is a skosh smaller but you'd have never known if I hadn't told you plus Its like 5 minutes from my house to get it and it cost me a total of $26.35 for 17'. The axle plates are made by Fabricator Kevin-$40.
they are 3/8" thick with a .755" slot 2" long. Will require axle bushings. I'm gonna try to use 1/4" plate for all the gussets. will post pics later I gotta go Christmas shopping. By the way i'm sleeving all butt connections on the pipe with some solid slugs that I made

found a rear fender I'm gonna try to make work and started on the floorboards/ footpegs
found the fender at a farm supply store for $30 gonna take some mods but i like the radius
The floorboards are made from an equipment step. getting everything about 1/2 done trying to get the look solid.
One question I have is on the chain. It has a 630 on it and I need to add @ least 12" to it The chain is o-ring and brand new. where can I buy an incomplete section of 630 o-ring w/ a masterlink? Got my axle bushings done and the sprockets line up good will post more pics later.

I guess no bites on the streetfighter bait-- gotta mess w/ you guys a little bit. the rear fender is roughed in- needs two more top mounts. a friend gave me a solo seat that was already coverd but because I ran the top frame legs straight to the axle plates the seat he gave me was far too narrow- I dont want the inside of my thighs on the frame so I built a seat pan out of a piece of 16 ga and bent some 1/2" round stock for bracing built the seat spring mounts another friend hooked me up with a harley 6" bottom mount headlight and a sweet front brake lever so before I strip it down for finish welding
*finish fender mount
*finish seat mount
*fab headlight bracket
*taillights?
*foot controls-- torn between the cost of buying them and the TIME in making them
*battery box--ignition switch holder thingamajig

That looks cool for the look you are going for. Are you still planning the 6000 mile trip in a week?

As long as it wasn't a pre 81 model 1000 or 900 you can cut it any way you like it and not worry about anyone hunting you down.
The kz 1000-900s are rare enough and the way they get exported on a daily basis it would be a crime for someone to do that to their bike. Not that I don't like people chopping up their bikes like that (they bought it they can do whatever they like to it) but a kz 1000 or 900 would hurt me to know someone did a thing like that. Would be better if you just made a custom frame and went from there.
I would never do anything to a 1000-900 that couldn't be undone framewise. People cutting the frame to stretch the rake out when they can buy tree that rake the bike out and then later find out that the angle was off or not perfect and just ruined a perfectly good frame.
But...what you did looks cool on a 750. Good luck and I hope that it works out cherry for you. Nothing like a beast from the east to ride and get peoples attention. That looks like a brutal beating on the back if you ask me but for a barhopper cool doings.
