Well I have taken my Z1 apart. I have the top part of the engine all removed and tucked away. Also removed the crank from the frame. May as well re-paint the frame while I got it apart. Ordered a new cam chain and gonna oversize the pistons. Might go with the 10:25:1 not sure yet. A GS1150 swingarm I got on Ebay is going on while its apart too.
Pic of the Z1 before I ripped it apart.

I will be uploading some pics of my progress with the Z1R shortly. Wanted to start this thread when I didn't have oil all over me.

Nice looking bike!
I am in the same boat....ever since I saw my first Z1R back in 1978 I have always wanted to own one. Unfortunetly I did not have the $$ back then, but now I do and the skills required to bring the bike back to life.

Newbie alert....help!
Very nice!
I just started restoring a 1978 Z1R with 2800 original miles. Sat in my cousins garage for 20+ years. I just posted on Wiredgeorge's forum as well for help.
I'm in the process of rebuilding the carbs and bent/broke one of the brass pickup tubes that fits into the carb housing. Are they replaceable? Can I find a carb body if needed.
Thanks in advance.

seems most mikuni's use the same brass fittings for most carbs.i heated the carb body up while my buddie pulled on it w/ pliers and we got it out and after i drilled and removed the broken one,i pressed the one we removed from the scrap carb back in worked great so far.

Life happened over the winter. I have been working on the project alot. I am ready to paint the frame. Have a 1075 kit 10:25:1 and will be getting a vm33. I also got a late 70's kerker off ebay in MINT shape. Not a dent. Sorry howard8414 I do not have a spare anything for the Z1R. I recomend Z1 Enterprises.
Sorry no pics yet. But will be coming.
