Hi,
I'm a new member and am buying a first for me, a Japanese motorcycle, a 1994 KZ1000P with 570 miles! I've always liked these motors since I first saw them being used by motorofficers in southern California. It is great to find a site like yours with so many people excited about the KZ model. You are a great resource.
Any comments would be appreciated about this particular model of KZ.
Thanks in advance for your assistance.
Regards,
Motorman

Hello!
Welcome to KZR! I'd be inclined to try and double check the claimed mileage...that is pretty low for a 12 yr old bike...not impossible, but worth another check.

Welcome. I agree with Mcdroid. The previous owner better have a rock solid story for that bike having that kind of low mileage...otherwords that meant he disconnected the speedometer cable for 12 years. Most police bikes usually have mega miles (35k-50k+) on them before they are swapped out of service.

Hi,
Thanks for your responses. Don't fret the mileage. I know the history and it's true. Looking forward to enjoying this pup. I've heard there are performance mods that can be made. Can it still be reliable?
Thanks

Greetings Motor...

Um, nope. Factory P models are box-stock KZ1000Js, aside from a geavy duty stator.
Plenty can be done to them in the way of hop-ups - same as any other J motor, but like anything else, the closer to the edge you push it, the more likely it'll be to go over. (mechanically)
That said, you can get some fairly significant power gains without stressing it too awful much - a hotter cam, flowed head with carbs to match and a set of pistons will make it downright *honk* without making it too much of a hand grenade...
