New guy on a KZ650 was created by thedoog
Hey guys,

New guy looking for resources on a KZ650. Mine's been sitting all winter, and the bike dealership I work for said they don't usually work on anything older than 1995. Anyone know of a good KZ mechanic in the Portland, OR metro area? My bike is in Salem right now, and I'm itching to get it going again, but with work, I don't have time to do it myself. Thanks a lot!

Tyler

Welcome to the forum. I know we have some members from Oregon so I'm sure they will chime in with some good advice.

Good luck on your project.:)

No, it's Doog. My friends tell me I look like Doogie Howser from the show of the same name... who knows.

Anyway, some pics are up from last summer here: wwu.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2023180&l=d176e&id=25903199

Gonna tinker with it tomorrow - see if I can get it going from sitting all winter.

Wow, that's cool. I like the bar-end mirrors on mine, but I like the removed rear fender on yours - really cleans it up. Got any more pics of yours?

Trust me, that pic of my 650 makes it look worlds better than it actually does! :pinch:
I just have that one pic of it right now though.
I can get a few more recent pics of it tomorrow for you if you'd like?

No big deal. I'm sure the 5 months in the garage make mine look worse than that too. But hopefully tomorrow night I'll be riding it anyway!

Not sure exactly what's wrong - haven't messed with it in a few months. It had been sitting for a few months the last time anyone tried to start it. It would almost start, give a little sputter, etc, but no start.

I'm trying to become more mechanically inclined, and I've heard that bikes of this vintage aren't too difficult to work on. So tomorrow should involve draining gas, changing oil, oil filter, and plugs - general tune-up stuff. If that doesn't work, I'll probably come back asking for suggestions :-)

And, I don't look too much like Doogie Howser looks now, but I do resemble him from the time the show was on. Rather odd - I probably won't look anything like him in 20 years, but three separate groups of friends have all decided I look like him.
