I added two photos this afternoon to my photobucket.com "Z1 Radial Tire Upgrade" thread (see '73 Z1-900 Stage II link below). These two photos show a modified Kawi rear brake torque arm fitted to a GS1100E swingarm.

Grinding the frame won't cause misalignment for the pivot bolt. As long as the bolt is still going through two holes that are the right size is doesn't matter how flush that is.
If it's not ground enough the arm won't fit. If it's overdone the arm will have left to right play.
If you want to grind it you can do so with a dremel. Just take a little off at a time from each side, mock up, grind some more, mock up, etc. until it fits.
Unless you plan on going back to stock as someone mentioned. My bikes a gonner though if I ever were to want to make it stock again. lol

Don't widen the frame. Make your modifications to the swingarm only. Find a machine shop and bring your stock one for them to take accurate measurements. On my other bikes i did this on a bridgeport to insure that the hole is perfectly aligned, otherwise your bearings will suffer because of misalingment. Not to mention alignment of the wheels will be difficult. I am not knocking the hacksaw method just pointing to the fact as a warning.

20 Feb 2006 18:45Swingarm Sleeve for '78-'80 750 Twin was created by Biquetoast

...during replacement of my swingarm bearings (got the new bearings from z1enterprises.com), I noticed that my swingarm sleeve is excessively worn on one side.
So my question is, what's a good place to get a new sleeve from? I checked eBay, not a sausage. Here's what I know:
OTHER MODELS THAT USED SAME PART:
79 750 B4
80 750 G1
BUYKAWASAKI.COM Item and part info:
42036-1014 SLEEVE,SWING ARM 1 KZ750-B3/B4
BIKEBANDIT.COM:
589643-001 SLEEVE,SWING ARM KZ750-B3/B4
$55.12
Edit: This item doesn't fit my twin, it's for fours..
OLDBIKEBARN.COM:
Swing Arm Shaft and Needle Bearing Kit (with seals and bearings I don't need)
$69.95
...by the way... anyone got a spare nice one?
...do I *really* have to pay $60 (with shipping)?
:S
EDIT: I forgot to mention that I looked at many of the more popular bike sites, no luck...

As already said, you can use the Kawi rear brake torque arm. Have a grinding wheel in the garage? That's all you need to grind down the swingarm pivot side of the torque arm to fit into the GS1100E swingarm arm. Then take measurements where the wider-than-stock tire hits the Kawi torque arm, add an inch plus and minus for present and future new/old chain adjustment movement from that mark, and grind away on your grinder to have the tire clear the arm. Primer and paint the arm, and it will look like OEM.
Went with custom made Works Performance shocks. But you cannot torque the upper two frame/shock nuts to nowhere near stock torque specs on these shocks. Beware of crushing the WP upper shock bushings if you go that route.
