Hi,

My bike (Z1000J -82) is missing the handle cover and I have been searching for one for quite some time. The part number is 59441-1001 and they seem pretty rare, at least in good condition.

I have found both a used one and NOS one with part number 59441-1003 now. On pictures, I cant spot a difference, also on parts diagram they look to be mounted the same way.

1003 is for KZ1100 A and D versions, 1001 is for different kz1000, both for 81-82 model years.

Does anyone know if its the same parts or what the difference could be? Maybe the diameter of the handle is bigger on Z1100 (which would mean that 1003 fits 1001 reasonably)?

According to cmsnl, the bracket below the covers is the same for the different models as well:110341899
Also, the holders for the handlebar is the same part number, which indicates same diameter.

Could they be the same part with different numbers?

 

Edited. differing part numbers could be as simple as a graphics change.  Without knowing for certain, if they both use the same bracket, then the covers probably fit the same. I would compare all of the parts, including the upper triple & meters, to rule out any fitment issues. Partzilla might be easier to use. www.partzilla.com/catalog/kawasaki/motorcycle

Partzilla actually says that they can deliver the J2 cover in 3-4 days, expected in stock 2-3 nov. Is that reliable?I have never used partzilla before.

I doubt that the part is still available. I would contact partzilla by phone. They're supposed to have good customer service.

Are you somewhere in EU? If so, these may be useless info, but I found these. According to seller, this came from Z1000-J.

I´m in Sweden, EU, many Japanese sites is blocked it seems for us nowadays. While googling, parts show up on Japanese ads, but thenit says blocked or are not displayed correctly etc.

I think I will try a NOS -1003 part, for the KZ1100. I will report back if its a good fit:)

Does your source have a picture of the 1100 one?
This is what an 82 1000J one looks like. The kawasaki lettering embossed should be gold but I didn't like it. 
 

Thanks for the pic! after seeing that, maybe the "lip" covering the gap to the trip meter is wider on the -J part then KZ1100:

I would say they are the same. I think it's the picture angle that makes them look different. ill have a look to see if I've got a pic from a similar angle.
