I recently got a 1982 1000J and I'm wondering about the fit of seat vs seat tail.
Once the seat is correctly installed, I can measure a ~ ¾ in. gap into which I can easily insert my fingers (see pic below).
Is this normal?
I question about a 1982 1000J but I believe the same question could also refer to 1981/1983 1000J, 1981/1982 GPZ1100, all ELR, 1983/84 KZ750L and 1984 KZ1100R. as they all have the same styling and tail piece.
Thanks a lot!

I have 82 KZ/GPz and currently, fighting just the opposite and I know the reason why. I need to bend my seat rail down a bit. But from what I can remember, gap was little less than that. I think mine was somewhere between 1/4~1/2" at most. For lack of a better word, I had to grab rear top of the seat to remove the seat.

The seat does have couple rubber dampers under it. maybe you can trim just the little? BTW, These seat have hook at the rear of the seat frame, so make sure the hook can catch the square loop and lock the seat.
82' KZ750-R1 cafe racer style. Clip-on, Rear set, Fork-Brace, Mikuni Flat-slide (forgot the size), Kerker.
84' GPz750 (basket case). everything are in pieces.
89' ZX750-H1 (ZX-7 Ninja). Resurrection project are on going with my KZ750. Everything is stock.

I already gave a look at the rubber dampers and I can’t really trim them for two reasons:
1- the edges of the seat would touch the frame seat hooks
2- the seat bracket’s hooks would be too low after the seat is latched (and the seat would be loose)

The seat have been fitted with a non-OEM cover and I believe the problem I have is caused by an excessive tension that lift up the rear section of the seat...
