After posting a couple of photos yesterday, I was a bit embarrassed at how bad my rear fender looked under the seat. I guess it was easy to ignore, since it was out of sight most of the time.
I almost didn't post them, but I knew Kaylinator wanted measurements to lay his stripes. So I was determined to do a bit of fixing today. I spent an hour or so with a toothbrush, some rags and trusty old Autosol. It came out pretty good, considering the shape it was in.
In order to get at as much of the fender as I could, I removed the tail piece. It's the first time I've removed it since I put the bike in storage in 1985. Imagine my surprise when, as I cleaned up the tail piece, the "glove compartment" tray slid out, complete with the mini owner's manual, my old insurance papers from 1985 and a perfect decal on the tray. I had no idea it was there. I've had the bike back on the road for 5 years and assumed the rubber pull was just a bumper for the seat. Funnily enough, my insurance in 1985 (with a declared bike value of $2,000) was $357. I just insured the bike on Monday (with a value of $10,000) and because it qualifies for Collector status, my insurance was only $300.
Thanks Kaylinator!

It that $300 for the year?  Last year I bought a multi plate license for my 3 vintage machines.  It cost me $450 for the year.  But then during the winter I got two letters saying they had underestimated the road cost and the winter storage cost.  Reports from other BC riders with a multi plate suggest it will be in the range of 3X more this year.  And I also have my KLR to insure.  Could be a macaroni and cheese summer!

By the way, that fender looks good now, but I can see a fair bit of dust in other areas, and that seat latch is gruesome!  Maybe buy another toothbrush or two and make your bike feel wanted!
I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

Ouch! Yeah, I could spend a few more hours! It's a daily driver, though, so I hate not going out because I don't want to clean it up afterward. We're still shut down for a couple more weeks, so I might find a bit of time. I'm waiting on a collector pipe to switch out my exhaust, so I'll definitely clean some areas that haven't been touched lately. I insured for 7 months, $1 million liability and $10,000 value for comprehensive. I was quoted $40 for winter storage, but I buy it when the current policy finishes. I've never bothered with collision. It actually went down from $317 last year with a value of $8,000.

$300 times 3 is only $900 so maybe I'm overthinking this multi plate thing.  Last year I paid $354 for the KLR for (I think) 6 months.  In total we insure 5 motorcycles, two vehicles and an RV, so we are very supportive of ICBC!

Hopefully you'll get a big fat rebate cheque when they come out in the next couple of weeks.
