I recently installed racetech gold valves. Racetech gives preload and “tuning” starting point for each bike. Check out their site and read in their instructions.
I used their recommendations and it’s like night and day. I think I’m 7 turns in which is a tad hard so I’m gonna set them to 5 turns in and be done.

Forks have to be completely disassembled for the work that needs to be done.

Thank you!

I think these must be a project for the next winter. So you have got a «new» bike now? :)

What about fine tuning do you need to completly dissamble the forks?

you remove the fork cap and spring then fish out the emulator with a magnet. It can easily be done while one the bike. Race tech has pretty good instructions and tech support.

I put Racetech emulators in my 750 forks. As mentioned, the forks need to be removed but the project is not difficult. And since the forks will be off that's a good time to grease or replace the steering head bearings too.

I installed Sonic springs and I'd say the springs made a bigger difference than the emulators. The emulators are nice and all but I don't notice a huge difference between them and the stock setup. I installed them and never pulled them to fine tune though. Maybe I should? I'm reasonably happy with the front end performance so I didn't find the need to experiment much.

If you have clapped out old springs you're going to have a bad time.

Sounds like you need to tune them. the dampening characteristics are gonna change in a very good way.

Did you leave the adjuster bolt alone? Mines are 7 turns in but they need to by 4 or 5 turns in instead.

I am running the Race Tech Gold Valves on my 85 GPz550, and love it. Previously I was running Progressive Suspension Springs only with the recommended oil level. Big difference in front end from then to now. Love it! Doing the Gold Valves, it disables the Anti-Dives. I still have them bolted on, but the brake lines to them are no longer there. Like that of the Ronco Grill, I set it and forget it. Been running this for a year now.

Thank you for your input.
You have replaced the progressive spring to «normal» one?

Besides the emulators a stiffer spring is a good idea. Also, dont forget about upgrading the shocks.

I have new shocks rear, what spring is best with emulator, not progressive?
