I'm going to make my own. Electric gauges for later models are cheap on eBay. So are the mechanical ones. I have my eye on a few. Through all this I learned the pivot is the culprit with wagging needles. The one I have now, I fixed the broken spring. I screwed up and munged up the windings. It works but isn't perfect. I spent money on a drive for it and to go electronic would mean I threw $35 down the poop shoot. The NOS faces I bought are good and didn't fade like the aftermarket one so now I have a decision to make.
I saw a new electric tach for the 74/75 Z1 but it's over $200.
BTW, the petcock I got and the right hand switches I got from them have issues too. It's ether a case of poor quality control at the factory or sell the items and see if they come back. It's not just them. The Doremi oil pressure gauge I got from another seller broke right away too. I sent it back and the replacement did the same thing.

I didn't get all my money for the tach. Somehow I lost $40 in the trade off but at least I wasn't stuck with NOS junk.

It was partially my fault. Instead of sending the SALESMAN a e-mail, I should have sent ti to the OWNER. He may have corrected the problem, maybe not. No way to tell now but they lost more business from me as a result.

Here's the difference in "super bright" and regular LED's.

This is what they looked like when I got them back, a few yrs. ago

How do they look now?

I sent my gauges to Z-Resto several years ago, and had a terrible experience.

They looked as good as yours do in that pic when I got them back, but the paint immediately began to chip. Incredibly brittle.

In less than 6 months on the bike, the red paint on the tach's redline was pink.

Both gauges worked fine when I sent them in. I had them rebuilt because I want Z-1 style faceplates, with no green rings around the edges, and no km/h markings on the speedo. When I got them back on the bike, both the speedo and the tach jumped all over the place. Bob at Z-Resto said it was the cables. I replaced them, but no change.

Did you replace the or lube the drives? That pic looks like my right rotator. No wonder doctors don't build houses.

Had me going for a day. I finally got some fittings to tap into my oil line going to the cooler. The gauge next to the points cover reads 40 PSI at rev, the one on the dash read 0. I took the one out of the truck to test and I confirmed what the other was reading. I had to clip off a little of the excess tubing for it to fit. I guess that was the problem. The CHINESE one sticks but comes up once revved a couple times. $45 down the poop shoot. Too late to take back. I wanted the black ones at OR but they couldn't find them in back. I should have waited.

Lubed the drives: no good.

That's the right distal radius.

Long, sad story. Bought that @#$%^&!!! KZ650, fought electrical and carb problems for over 4 years.

Never got more than 400 miles without eating a stator, rectifier, battery, or some combination of the 3.

Finally got it right. On the 2nd tank of gas of great riding, I high-sided on a hairpin turn at around 15mph. Broke right distal radius, fractured left radial head, fractured 3 ribs, fractured left kneecap, broke favorite pinky toe. Tore the left shoulder armor and the left elbow armor off my jacket. If not for my armored jacket and helmet, it would have been much worse.

That @#$%^&!!! KZ650 bent the handlebars, bent the left footpeg, and broke the left-front blinker.

I renamed it "Christine".

Stake bed truck turned left in front of me. I remember kicking off, no more. SHT happens. That was in 86. Back on the road late 87. I don't blame the bike,

I don't blame the bike. I blame the evil spirit that possesses it.
