I just got one for my KZ550A1, this isn't suppose to go on under or in place of the fender is it? It may fit with this rounded fender I have, but I like the chamfered channel fender that is stock.

Not happy with the prospects so far. Any experiences with this?

Erol - just eying sh*t up right now.

SHould go over the fender. I have a no-name one new off ebay that looks similar to the Daytona (it clamps on to the rubber fork boots). It looks like it might need a little clearing with an angle grinder to clear the fender.

By the way, I have a pristine stock red fender I'll probably sell cheap.

I have one on my 82 spectre. I removed the fork boots and added an after market neoprene boot. The Daytona brace fits right over the top of them. My only problem is I can't tighten the brace too tight or it binds the forks. I really like the way they look on the bike, but am not sure how needed they are.

OK, I've got the digicam back up and running, I should be posting up pics soon of this issue. So far I agree, it should go over the top.

Be back tomorrow.

Mine clamps to the fork's metal tube then the rubber seal pops on over top.

jester, i've got a 1980 550A1 too. i just bought this 1981 fork brace from ebay:

cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/81-83-KZ550-GPz5...QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

it looks like the 1981 brace won't be tall enough to clear the fender, but hopefully some spacers will do the trick:

www.kzrider.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=6728

looks like the 1980 KZ550A1 rubber seal sits about 1.0 inch lower on the fork than on the 1981 KZ550A2+. guess i'll need a pretty big spacer:

Alright, forgot about this thread, moving the other post here.

Only way I got it to install on my KZ550A1.

Guess a little modification will be necessary.

either 1 of three ways:
1. Grind down the inner surface of the fork brace about 1/16"
2. Pound in the fender (not preferred)
3. Use alternate fender (have a black 84GPZ), pound the shit out of it till it fits and displace 6 months of pent up aggression.

No matter which way I go about doing it, I'm prolly still gonna exercise #3, for theraputic reasons.

What aboiut cutting the fender so the brace goes through it, and smoothing the transition area with fiberglass cloth and resin?
