Sandy Offline User Fly High,Tony Posts: 2452 Thank you received: 13	I know on My 77 1000,I can remove it.It's only held in place by a set-screw.I bought a new one from the dealer a few years back,and it was a simple install. Not sure on the 650,but again...on My 77 1000,I have to have the front end turned all the way,either direction before the lock pin will pass by the steering stopper. 1977 KZ1000 A-1

I second this.
It's a "feel" thing.
You have to have the stem turned in just the right spot, the push-in at just the right time, while you ease the key to turn....

donthekawguy Offline User Posts: 1913 Thank you received: 8	Is it the kind that locks on the bottom or on the side of the neck? If it's the neck the "lock" part fits into a slot on the stem.
