I"ve read some posts on the Dyna . It seems to be a hassle to install. Is this system better than the Boyer-Bransden Mark 111 ?

This is a great question! I have been trying to figure out the pros and cons of Dyna VS Boyer for my 1977 KZ650-B other than just price. I hope someone out there can give you a couple of good answers. I'll be listening with interest especially to hear whether they were able to keep their stock coils.

I'd also like to know the cheapest place, in Canada if possible, to get them. Again, great question!

I'm not sure if the Boyer system I used was a mark III but I have had them both in my 650 and I like the Dyna far better because it uses the stock mechanical advance instead of the electronic advance the Boyer built into their system.
But, neither system is going to help unless you make sure your coils, secondary wires, primary wiring and carbs are in proper working order.
As far as installation, I don't know what the problem is people were having. Both systems are simple to install just follow directions step by step.
And, yes the coil relay setup we all talk about on here is well worth the work and tiny investment you make.

The Dyna 2000 does away with the stock mechanical advancer - it uses selectable electronic advance/retard settings - plus it has additional features like a built-in rev-limiter.

I wouldn't consider the Dyna 2000 difficult to fit - it's really very easy to fit. You do have to find a home on the bike for the control module.

genuine kawasaki elec.ign. parts bolt right up and last longer
I suggest that route

much better quality as far as materials and heat resistance

Good stuff "trippivot"! Which Kawasaki (year and model) electronic ignition would bolt-up to my 1977 KZ650-B1? I really like the reliability idea.

Got to disagree with your point - we have seen a large number of failures of stock ignitors in the last year or so - I will agree when they work, they work well - but age is starting to take it's toll - just in the last week we've had three customers replace failed ignitors on their KZ1000's.

Additionally they are dependant on the stock mechanical advancers which tend to over advance as the springs weaken with age and the stops on the mechanical advancers bend outwards - often allowing as much as 45 degrees full advance - way too much. You cannot even adjust the stock ignition timing without customizing the back plate - and many of these older bikes benefit from tweaking (retarding) the ignition settings to help compensate from cam chain wear and lousy gasoline.

I have to agree with You on that,Jeff...unless of course,You can find an NOS igniton set-up,and it not cost You a leg and an ear.
I went with the Dyna2000,and wow...totally impressed!
I also used the Boyer,and other than the issue I had with a connector not being tight when I took it apart when I tore into My engine(plus I was using 28 year old factory coils)...that set-up worked awesome as well.(both,"Set and forget")
I like the Dyna2000 better than the Boyer,mostly because it has the built-in rev limiter,and the preset timing advance settings.Also...much easier to set up initially,with the L.E.D. indicator light.B)

GPz 550 igniter box is super easy because it has the least amount of wires and a simple sftey system and will work on ANY 550 650 750 900 1000 1100 etc

any KZ 750 crank pick up coils and the mechanical advance from 750s'fit on 650s'

wiring up isn't too bad if you got a good working knowlege of the circut.

I like modern Ninja rising field ignition coils easy to mount and changable plug wires they are not set up for points (less saturation time)

I use this set up but there is no exactly right and perfect system.

for the 900s' and 1000s' the later "P" or GPZ 1100 stuff will bolt up on the crank ends well.

trip .what is the later 'p'?do I have to worry about the year or will all the P & gpz 1100's work? can you mix and match the 550gpz egnitor with the gpz or p pick up coils? :side:

all 1000 "P" police 1000 air cooled 2 valve head roller crankshaft or also called a "J" case engine. GPz 1100 is similar lower case castings they all have electronic pick up coils that work identicaly. the wire codes even match usually. the brains vary a bit from 550-750-1100
but all will function if hooked up right

power to the brain -red
signal from crank 2x2 wire connection will plug right in red/green, black/yellow
ground the brain -black
2 wires to the coils (1-4)black(2-3)green
saftey circut wire gets a ground -yellow and black (I think)
and of corse power to the coils and good ground there as well
not trying to confuse anyone but that may not good enough warning
