Question Is it possible to overhaul/repair a 1981 Z1000J electronic Km speed counter. At the moment needle is walking/shivers from 80km to 120km.

Possible yes but it´s a more difficult task to open the housing without further damage.

There is a crimp ring around the center of the meter. That ring has to be VERY carefully peeled open. Getting it crimped back into shape requires some serious skills, or a crimping tool made especially for that size ring. I am not aware of anyplace to get the tool.

You are welcome. I have read posts by folks who said they got it back together well enough that only a trained eye and close inspection would reveal the imperfections. I have read a couple where the poster really stretched the metal getting it off, and it looked pretty awful when they tried to reinstall it. I reckon it can be done, but it would take a great deal of finesse to avoid stretching the metal and getting it recrimped without distorting the contours. If you want to give it a try, it might be worth the expense to buy a junker that has a decent looking ring to practice on.
