Yes I am using the wells module for both, my issue is getting it running, I haven’t touched the coil for 2 & 3 after swapping those wires. I’ll look at those connectors tonight and see if there is a break or any abrasion. Does anyone know what the pickup coil gap size should be? It just doesn’t make sense that it will spark 1&4 but not 2&3 yet when manually done it sparks fine.

It could be possible that some little wobble of the rotor create a larger gap to the picup coil so it will not attract the pickup coil???

I will check the rotor for wobble before I start to bend the coils. Still new to this so I take it the rotor is the oblong piece of metal that engages the pickup coil when it rotates? I do still need a factory spec in order to see if they are in the correct gap or not?

You only need to compare the gaps between the 1-4 and 2-3 pickup with a feeler gauge.

I’m not near the bike right now but I can most definitely tel you that a feeler gauge will not be wide enough. Possibly half the stack on top of each other but not a singular gauge. This is why I would want to know what the factory spec is because if mine is this far out of wack then I want to get it back to how it should be. Presumably you can measure yours with a feeler gauge. I just planned on using the ID side of a caliper.

Well good news, consistent spark on all cylinders now, the gap was indeed too large. No fraying of the wires connecting to the coil so that was good. One thing I noticed is the battery has to have a good charge in order to fire the hei modules. It all works now just something I noticed. Now to clean the carbs again and hope it will run now. One question for you all, is there a good starting place to put the pilot screw for all cylinders? Just a base place to start tuning?

I had it all sparking yesterday and I woke up this morning hoping to start it and be able to ride it and it wouldn’t start. So I checked spark and only had spark on cylinders two and three. Nothing changed between having spark and not having spark so I’m not sure at this point. I got sick and tired of trying to fix this GM HEI igniter replacement so I just bought a dyna electronics system that replaces to pick up coils and has no use for an igniter. I realize I might have to get a different set of coils for it but if it sparks better than this replacement igniter then it’s worth it. The end of riding season is coming up and I can’t have this thing down for another six months.

Have you checked the ground from battery to engine, and to the frame?

This thing is so frustrating. I wake up this morning and decide to go play with it before the dyna gets here and now it sparks on all cylinders. Haven’t touched a single thing. I couldn’t ride it with it being this unreliable so I’ll have to install the dyna tomorrow morning. I found a good video that should help with my static timing. I think I’ll throw the old pickups on eBay since they were still confirmed to be good. Maybe help recoup some of the money I had to spend on the dyna. What kind of gas do you guys run? Non-ethanol? 93 octane?

No I have not checked the grounds, if you can post where they are I’ll be sure to clean them all tomorrow morning when I install the dyna
