Yes it did!

Put it in neutral, pull the clutch, and hit the starter button.

...the starter clutch is probably broken due to vibration and age, of course...

So you'll end up using the kick...

Yes, and the starter attaches to the front of the motor for all the world to see :D

I actually replaced the starter, starter clutch, and repaired the starter button so the starter worked perfectly on my 80 750G twin, but the next day the starter didn't work
Probably a bad connection between the starter solonoid and the starter button, but it starts so easily with the kickstart that I have not bothered to fix it again

Welcome to the forum!

Without even hearing what the symptoms are, I naturally assume that the starter clutch has gone bad. It seems to do that in all of the 750 twins. Repair kits are harder to come by these days, but as stated above (in this thread), sometimes you can re-build them, sometimes you can't...

I had one motor with a bad starter, and one with a bad starter clutch (sheared the mounting bolts). Now I have one motor with a good starting system, and one that's kick start only :D

i have 2 76 kz 750's and i figure between the 2 bikes i should be able to put something together and get a good running bike. they both set but both have good compression. i recently got one to kick start since both electric start system don't work but the bike is running real rough and seems to be out of time. how do i get the timing right, sync the carbs and get point right? i'm tired of the backyard experts who are just guessing so i might as well try top fix it myself. i can even find the repair manual 4 this bike anywhere. i

Greetings, kz750man. The manual I swear by is the "Kawasaki Service Manual".

You can get it straight from Kawasaki here:
Service Manual for the '76 - '79 KZ750B, part #99997-744-04 ...

...or you can usually find it on eBay (I searched, and only found one on CD, not print)...

...also, somebody in this forum had scanned it and posted it somewhere, I can't remember now who... maybe a search in the archive will find it...
