Hello KZ communityI have been having trouble starting my 1977 KZ650.

After tearing the carb down and re-leveling the floats it still won't start.

Today I noticed when trying to start that the 3rd carb from the left was spitting fuel.  Can anyone help guide me to a resolution?

Thanks in advance.

Btw i searched the forum first and the first 10 results did not provide a solution

Just where is the fuel spitting from?  The overflow port/tubes or out the intake bell of the carb?

The 3rd was soaked in fuel and all had a little soot built up

You can save that plug so you can test, use a propane torch and heat the ceramic and earth strap. It will take some time but eventually the ceramic will start to lighten, continue to heat till the whitest color is achieved.

Are all the vacuum nipples installed on the carb holders. If it’s not flowing out of the overflow tube then it not likely to be float level, unless the overflow tube plugged.

It could be stuck open float needle valve. Try knocking on bowl to free the valve.

How's the valve clearances ?
If 3 is too tight it may not be seating and blowing back.

So I tried everything except torching the plugs because I checked for spark and all 4 plugs were working well.

Could this be a timing issue or air screw issue?  I did the valves and did not touch the Dyna ignition after that, would I be better to re-adjust the timing?

That is my main concern. I just went back over the math and I may have “mis-mathed” on # 3. Thankfully I kept notes and it will just mean ordering a new shim and the excitement of tearing apart the top end again…..
