Can't figure out what this part is on the bottom of the fuel tank on my 1982 GPz1100... I see a picture of it in the Clymer manual, but no mention of what it actually is. It has a two-wire connector coming out of it, so I'm guessing some kind of low fuel indicator? Does anyone know what it is?

Fuel gauge. see Partzilla link.  It has a float w arm & I think a resistor.
As the float level changes the resistance changes & affects the current to the fuel meter.
Your motorcycle should also have a Fuel Warning Meter between the speedo & tach.
The Kawasaki service manual has extensive information on the fuel level warning system.
Service Manual:  there's a KZ1000/1100 FSM pdf that should cover your model.  possibly linked here on KZR.  It's also linked elsewhere.

Ahh okay, that's what I was thinking it might be. I've been able to locate the Clymer manual, but have had trouble finding a digital or paper copy of the Kawasaki service manual... I'll have to search again on the forum here. The original speedo and instruments no longer work, so they are being replaced as part of the overall rebuild I'm doing. Thanks for the details!

Linked below is the zed rider site.  I'm assuming the pdf links there are still good.
You'll need the one listed under Z1000 J 1981-3
Also but not necessary for your application >> GPZ 1100 1983;
It's a supplement manual covering the 83-85 models >> use w the 81-83 manual.

Oh, this is great! Can't thank you enough... I've spent the last couple of months doing a full teardown and am in the early stages of the rebuild. This is immensely helpful.
