Hey guys, I've got a '77 kz650c that I need to get some new carb holders for. Z1E has these ones, www.z1enterprises.com/carb-holders-with-...1978-1982-pkg-4.html. They say they are for '78 to '82 Kz650. But the guys from z1e says that they are different than the '77 carb holders. Even though they use the same part numbers from Kawasaki. I asked the guy why are they different and he said that the cylinder heads are different between the '77 and '78 but he wasn't completely sure. So what do you guys think? Help me out here. Kawasaki wants to charge me $40 for each carb holder.

Do not hold me to this as I do not want to give you wrong info - but to the best of my knowledge there is no difference between 77 and 78 heads.  In 79 the clean air system was added but it does not have any effect on the carb holders.  I am pretty sure all the 650s had the same carb holders until the carbs were changed over to BS type carbs in 1982.

Thanks gd4now, that's what I thought as well.

Can anyone else confirm with him?

They are for definate sure the same. Hard to imagine why any parts supplier that works with old Kawasaki's would not know this.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

I know, it seemed really weird to me that they wouldn't be the same and that they wouldn't know that. I've always heard they were a great resource to find info about parts.

But ya, here is the screenshot of the conversation I had with them about these...

The diagrams obfuscate things just a tad as two different names are used for the LH vs RH carb holders.
But the part numbers jibe & are the same for the 77-81 KZ650s w VM24 carburetors.
Some 77 650s came w VM22 carburetors & therein may lie the confusion at Z1Ent.
perhaps someone jotted down or extrapolated some incorrect info. nobody knows.  ???

Yea and I know I have the vm24's. If anything they should say that there carb holders are for 650's from 77 to 82 with vm24s. And not just go by year.

It seems to me that Z1Ent. erred on the side of caution which seems like the prudent thing to do.
With a vintage motorcycle it's incumbent upon the owner to do his due diligence as the least little thing can be a big pain.
Also, the 82 650 carb holders would be different since the 82-83 models came w BS32 carburetors.

Yea exactly, that is why I asked the question on the forums. Need to make sure before buying.

Kind of related.  I plan on installing new tires soon, but need to get a 90 degree air valve for the rear.  pretty mundane, but still a pain.
