So, I have been toying with the idea of replacing the stock cv carbs with a pair of mikuni vm30s or vm32s.

My thinking is that parts will be easy to find and the mechanical carbs will be easier to tune. Thoughts, concerns, ideas?

You will need 28s, anything bigger will be to big.
Do some searching for info on the correct slide,
pilot jet and main for your application.

I love my vm-34 on my kz-440. Used the 2-1 intake from 11th hour. Cheap and super easy to jet . gives the bike the best feel and sound. Just prepare for lower gas mileage ( <30 for me).
- good luck

I've got one 440 with a vm34 and 11th hour manifold that I am going to start working on today. Just was curious about the dual carb on my other 440.

How did you jet your single carb?

Sorry, I was commenting more on the fact that I like the vm carb on the 440. It just runs so nice. I went with a 22.5 piolet and a 175 main jet. Needle clip at top position. Im actually planning to do a two vm carb on a KZ 305 I'm working on. So good luck to you.

Lol I just had just woke up, didn't mean to come off as rude. I saw a CB with dual mikuni carbs and really liked how it looked and thought it might be cool on my 440 brat cafe thing.

I'm working on a 440 scrambler (hopefully) mess right now with a single vm34 on it that I gave up on about a year ago. I thought it was a carb issue but recently discovered it was a locked up advancer so I'm revisiting the project.

Do you have any pictures of your 440 up, I'd like to check it out. There seems to be a lot of them showing up lately.

I have a pair of VM30s on my 76 KZ400 - they work well. I agree with eaiser to get parts for than stock carbs.

Based on what I've read VM28s should be the best size for the 398cc KZ400 twin but VM30s are more readily available and less expensive. I know of others who have run VM30s and VM32s on KZ440s with good success. I would opt for VM30s if it were me. And based on my experience with running a pair of VMs I would choose that over a single carb and a 2-into-1 intake manifold.

I am trying to swap my CV Kehins to VMs on an 81 kz440b.  I see people recommend VM28 or VM30.
I am assuming stock air box and stock intake boots cannot be used with these.  Also the hardware for a dual carb setup is specific to VMs and I cannot reuse what is on the Kehins.
Is there a parts list or some DIY I can find some place?

Thanks
Ergin
