I just did mine a couple weeks ago, have ridden it off and on (depending on weather) and havn't melted the motor yet.
When I set the air screws, I have Mikuni 24's i think, with the brass air screws on the top outboard inlet side of the carbs, I followed climer for the most part.
I ran the air screw in gently to seat and back out 2 turns (it'll be lean)
Started the bike on choke and let it warm up.
once warm trying to take the choke off it was obvious the carbs were lean.
I turned them all in 1/4 turn (in for richer, out for leaner) and tried again, better.
turned them all in 1/4 turn again, best yet.
Once I got it so it would hold an idle, one carb at a time, I turned the air screw in 1/8 turn at a time until the engine slowed, then back out until I got the highest rpm. sometimes I will continue past until the engine slows or runs badly then back in until the rpm is at it's highest.
I did this with each carb.
I set the idle knob to about 900 rpm reved the engin to clear the carbs and see how it picked up, and did the air screw thing again.
I ended up with my air screws at about 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 turns out.
at the moment 1&2 seem a little lean and 3&4 seem about right.

The choke seal, probably ought to replace it, I don't know how sensitive it is, but is an air leak.
