As we are a rider, we need to use riding gear. Rider gears will help us to protect us. If we don't use any riding gears then we will be suffering a lot of problems such as hearing loss and death risk.
So we need to use a jacket, helmet, boots, gloves and custom hearing protection. Custom earplugs will help us to protect from the hearing damage.

I use personally adapted hearing protection on long distance high speed Highway rides.

Hearing protection is important, but I am not sure I buy the entire argument in the video. I have used most of the ones he showed. I have a set of foam plugs that fit me very nicely, and I have a much pricier custom set. Honestly, I am not sure I can tell the difference in noise teduction between the two.

Can't say i have ever felt like i needed ear plugs. My bikes are quiet and my helmet vents don't blast my ears.

You may want to give them a try if you go for long rides. I've used ear plugs on long trips and they really do help reduce fatigue even though my bike is totally stock and pretty quiet. I think most of the noise is air rushing over the helmet rather than bike noise. I don't use them when going for normal rides of about 100 miles or so. Ed

Short rides around town at urban speeds, they are probably not needed. At highway speeds, hearing damage can start to occur in as little as 30 minutes. As 650Ed noted, wind noise is the major culprit, even with a really good helmet.

I always wear ear protection either foam earplugs around town or my Quiet Ride helmet for longer trips. It makes a big difference on either my loud bikes or quiet ones.

Here is a pretty good article on the risks of unprotected ears.

In the late '80's early 90's I had a very nice Shoei RF1100(?) helmet for years that produced noticeably higher levels of windblast noise on the right side than the left. When touring, my right ear would be ringing when I stopped for gas or the evening. Didn't think anything about it. Then, one day in 2002, tinnitus just spontaneously developed in my right ear. Literally, one minute there was silence, then in under 30 seconds, riinnnggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg.

A hearing test revealed it's centered around 3,000 Hz.

It's. Always. There.

If one's ears are ringing after Ridin' (or any noisy activity), damage to hearing is occurring.

Period.

The damage may not become apparent immediately, but it's cumulative. Tinnitus is irreversible, and living with constant ringing 24/7/365 is unpleasant to say the least.

It took me a Ridin' season the convince The Lovely Z1BEBE to wear ear pro. She always does now.

We use foamies if Ridin' alone. When inserted correctly, sound attenuation is very high, on the order of very good shooting muffs. If we're Ridin' together, either on our own bikes or two-up we use custom-fitted earplug speakers connected to our Scala helmet-to-helmet communicators.

I was vaguely aware of Ridin' with earplugs at the start of my Ridin' career in the late '60's. I really regret not doing so until after the damage was done.

Good Ridin'

OK, you guys convinced me. My ears have been ringing since I was in my early 20's and had a helicopter taking off and landing next to my head every 30 minutes all summer long. Picked up some EarPeace M plugs and if nothing else it does make the ride a lot quieter. Put on a couple hundred miles of mostly highway driving and it was more pleasant with a lot less wind noise.
