Hi all

I'm chasing a KZ750 ('78-79) front brake calliper/assembly to replace the existing mechanical brake on a '79 KZ200.  From what I've read the front calliper from a 750 will fit the existing disc but would just require a new bracket to be fabricated to fit to the existing mounts on the forks.

Cheers
Amanda

Looking at pictures of the kz200, it looks like maybe the front brake is completely mechanical?  I have never seen one of those on a kz.  Most of the larger late 70s kz models share the same basic caliper, so you probably don't need to limit your search to the 750.  There are also early 80s calipers that look different but can be interchanged with the 70s style.

If you post some measurements of the mounting bracket bolt spacing and other caliper dimensions someone could compare those to the hydraulic kz caliper to give you an idea of how much work you'll need to do.

Based on looking at the pictures and the part numbers of the internal parts on Partzilla, it looks like that caliper was used on the front of the 400 and 500 triples as well as the rear of the 1977-80 1000 LTD. The bracket looks to be different in most cases, but the caliper itself seems the same.

Yes, the KZ200 had a fully mechanical front disk brake. It is only slightly more effective than the Fred Flintstone style brakes. Some small H—-as of that era were equipped with the same lame system.

Does anyone know if the later 1981/82 twin piston calipers will fit, I'm less than a hour away from Amanda on Brisbane's south side....   In saying that, they will need a kit putting through them...

I looked up the parts fishe at Partzilla. Looks like you will loose the speedo drive if the caliper is removed. Maybe a better option would be to swap in a different front fork set. All balls bearings has a interchange listing that might help.

You've lost me here , whats the caliper got to do with the speedo drive ?  I'm completely unfamiliar with the little KZ...

I think what you're seeing in the diagram is the cable that actuates the mechanical caliper. Based on photos the speedo drive is on the other side of the wheel from the caliper.

Please disregard, I see it, sorry. I was confusing the brake cable with a speedo cable. When I looked at the front hub I see the speedo drive. Unusual it’s on the right.
