Why not install a helicoil?  Auto parts stores sell kits with the appropriate tap.  Just make sure to use the correct drill bit first.

Its drilled off center, no way I can drill it correctly for helicoil. I believe it’s m5 in there and pretty tight clearance. If inexpensive cover available Id rather replace. I have one from 79 but it looks little different on logo, also a possibility

Have you checked ebay?
I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

How? It's not about just inserting it. It's about making it in correct location. Hole drilled off-center. How do I drill it to restore correct position?
And.. Cost of timesert kit for M5/M4 (not sure which one need to check) will probably be close to another cover.

Duh.. Ok. I guess I am trying to overthink stuff.
Anyhow.. M5 (this is what it is) timesert kit is like $80.
I will see maybe use my M6 timesert kit if there is enough meat and then just enlarge hole in stator body a little.. Hope it works.

I only found 5 or 6 like yours with the cross-hatch pattern on EB. one of them is nos & over-priced.  3 or 4 are in the $55T range.
There's one from a 79 model that's $28T but it doesn't have the cross-hatch pattern.  None of them looked that great.

search terms I used:  KZ650 generator cover. also searched KZ650 with: alternator cover. stator cover. dynamo cover. engine cover.
