The opening on the air cleaner side has a dent where someone must have dropped it .

This can be fixed/reformed with a rubber hammer and a suitable round plastic rod and some light Tabs!!!

Would you only need a hammer ? I thought maybe some heat and a surface with the curve of the normal outside circle or curve.

As mentioned that dent will come out with some careful manipulation from a plastic hammer and a round/curved mandrel.
The alloy is very malleable but don't use any heat as it's more likely to crack due to it being prone to "hot short".
