hey friends! hoping to borrow a ring compressor for a kz1000 (72 or 73mm i believe, i can confirm if you have one about there) sometime later this month, or in early june. i'm still cleaning the cylinder cover and valves so i'm not in a rush :), just wanted to check before i buy one like i did for the valve compressor haha.
i'm happy to provide a reasonable, refundable deposit for the tool and pay for shipping to and from if you are so kind to lend it to me.
happy to chat on the phone if you'd prefer additional vetting, i promise i'm just trying to get a nice old bike up and going again!

much appreciation,
sean

Cut a section from a plastic fizzy drink bottle and use cable ties around it. (not sure what you call cable ties over the pond)

Ive messed around with ring compressors a few times and have found its easiest to just do it by hand. (if the bores are chamfered at the bottom) Put 2&3 at TDC, compress the rings with your fingertips, work back and forth from 2 to 3 until they slide in, then do 1 & 4. a small screw driver can help to poke the ring in but be careful. It can be done in about 10 minutes.

Jay from APE recommended this and it was easy as pie...... the hose clamps sound good too but by hand worked great for me.

Just use large amounts of oil to lube the rings

I have a factory ring compressor for the KZ1000 70mm bore. I did not think it worked easily and reverted to pushing the rings in with my fingernails. I assembled new rings and bore dry because back in the day race motors went together that way because there was no break in period.
