"this starters are notorious for crapping out"

Where did you here that?
Kawasaki did not build items that broke easily, they were primarily a ship building company.
But like any company they did not intend there products to live for 30-40 years either.
I have a '82 starter in my bike and its never been apart.

I don’t recall how I came with that but thru reading stuff…. also it’s pretty much the only one that can’t be found even refurbished vs other models or engine sizes which makes things harder. Either way I agree it’s an old bike and everything wears out. I’m not mad either way but grateful to have found such bike.

Yes I know  thanks to you, I ordered one of those yesterday. You helped me big time with that page,I appreciate it and hope they work better than the last set. Which was 60 from Amazon and more generic I guess, it was db electrical brand smu9143… that was was half the price and seems like the same it’s just for (mitsuba) vs a generic parts lot that can be used for many others.

Hello all, just an update bike is back running, thank you so much for the help. Unfortunately I had to mod the part in many ways. luckily I made it fit and there’s no issues starting now. The brush holder (round plate) was oversized compared to the starter by like 1/16, the ears that aligns the plate in position there’s 4 of them were not centered and the one that aligns the back of the starter was oversized. Regardless using a rotary tool I addressed all issues and I’m back to business. Thanks all for tips and tricks haha I appreciate it
