Reputable shops don't do that for that specific reason. It's more expensive and it takes longer. And people less likely to pay the price. Hence they just say "we don't do it"

At 8:38 he pulls the cylinders. Is that how far you need to go to do the base gasket? Taking it apart this far doesn't look that bad to me. I imagine this is somewhat similar to mine (75 KZ400 vs 82 KZ305), but he doesn't put it back together which I hear is the important part.   I haven't found a video of anyone putting a KZ twin back together yet.

This guy pulls a 305 engine although its kinda boring and meandering at first so I didn't actually watch him pull it

Cant believe I'm even looking at these...

wow that 2nd vid was bad and worthless.

But I read my shop manual and started thinking there's at least a 1 in 10 chance that I might be able to do this myself without ruining it. Taking 10%  against the 100% likelihood of having to cough up a grand or even a couple grand for someone who knows what they are doing to do it, I started seriously considering this. But then I read this thread

www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=206598

and wonder if its even worth it. I knew it was a small bike but I didn't know its a joke. Although that thread is pretty funny. I sure had fun riding it on those rare days it ran well. I really want a 440 or a 454 but I don't want to pay more than a few hundred for one because I might end up in the same boat. So I'm still seriously considering attempting this but I will probably need a lot of help. Seeing as that help would have to come from you, what do you think? Should I or shouldn't I? What do I have to lose that I don't already not have, right?
