it can do both but vacuum is not a common problem
AFAIK you pretty much need a leak between the combustion chamber and the crankcase that only happens on the intake stroke.
Can't think of any other way to get it.

I suspect that the gaskets were mangled when the thing was assembled. Hence my offer to swap the P5 motor with new pistons and rings for it...11K... if it ain't broke, it's probably still OK ;-)

its highly unlikely the gaskets were actually sucked in but the only way for that to technically happen would be for the bottem end to actually become a vacuam pump to suck the gaskets in ,im still putting my money on junk gaskets.

maybe it happened on the airplane ride home from fbg. cabin to 10k ft and 92 degress to put pax to sleep. when landing slammed to sea level and 55 degrees to wake them up. breather got plugged and gaskets got pushed in, along with 3 pax hearing aids and one fontanel.

some high performance motors will have a crank case evacuation system to pull a couple inches of vacum in the crank case. does the motor have any hoses going from the crank case (or valve cover) to the header or maybe an air pump? just a thought

i talked about using the smog ports on the emission motor heads and running them into collector on header to make a poor mans crankcase evacuation system before but there wasnt much interest in it

I hit 11,000 all the time and dont have any leaks. I use a clear 3/8 tube hooked to my vent housing nipple, and the other end going into a clear tupperware like container about the size of a baby bottle strapped to the frame. Its easy to see under the body if it would start to get oil in it, but it stays dry all the time. I have only heard good things about FBG, and have talked to Paul several times at the track and he really knows KZ& J motors. I will only use his clutches and carbs on my bike. I too have never had cover gaskets tear or be drawn in by the motor, even when I was down a cylinder. I like to use a little Yamabond on the gaskets, Its never fail me yet. Hope this helps.

oh no 11,000 isnt impossible i just said ive never seen a streetbike motor make power to 11,000 rpms.ive spun 11,000 on a few occasions just for shits and grins but quit making power at around 9,000-9,500.the 1197 with 900 crank in my z1 will spin to the stars it dont start making power till 6500 then it hits like a sledgehammer i run out of  before it does by the time it hits 10,000 its doing more than i want to deal with.
