If you wanted to go for the 1105 kit I believe an GPZ1100 block drops straight in to the Z1000J crankcases and then it's only a 0.5mm overbore or you could go to an 1170 kit

I would have to measure, but I have been told that the 1000j cases would need to be bored to take a gpz1100 block.

anyone with firsthand info?? or do I need to get out the calipers??

Thanks.

I think my KZ1000A1 might have been modified. It's got no through holes in the block. I'm still working on it, slowly because it's my baby and I want to do everything on the GPz1100 or the KZ1000P for 'practice' before tackling on the A1. If I bugger something up it's not gonna make me feel as bad if I do it on a ratty old $150 police bike ;-)

I'll be checking valve clearances once I get all the chassis work done and can have a look at the timing chain galley then. If it was modified, it was done way back in late 70's or early 80's. Who was making hotrod parts then?

Does it have fins across the end of the block, or is there a square where a logo could go?

Anybody have experience putting the GPZ1100 cylinders on an unmodified KZ1000J engine case?

If you don 't mind splitting the cases so you can bore the top case out, a GPZ block allows you to do an 1170cc with only cylinder boring.

a GPZ1100 block fits on a 1000J case without any problems.

fits, but just try bolting it down without clearing the cases, can you say cracked cases.

if you have,I would check the cases when you take the block off to see if there isn't a stress crack around the web

there is enough place for the 1100ccm sleeves.
Cylinder fits without any problems and the upper case was not grinded.

The 1100 block will fit the 1000J cases without any problems. I have a 1000J with the 1100 block bored to run 1135 wiseco's and it has been run this way since 1990.I'm now in the process of freshening up the engine and am reusing the same pistons on an 1100 block. Rering and lightly touch up the valves. I personally would not run the 1170's in the 1100 block. Sleeves are getting thin at that displacement plus it will likely overheat. The 1135's in my J run quite a bit hotter than stock. An 1105 kit in an 1100 block should be pretty good for a street bike.Might try that on my gpz 1100.
