Hi , I have a 1979 kz1000 ltd that doesnt have a centre stand , so I was thinking of buying a padock stand so I can do maintenance etc , but most of the ones online seem to be for modern bikes , ideally I want one that can do both front and rear , any suggestions greatfully received :)

This is a little down the Macgyver road but I thought it was smart... I read we’re a guy modified a lift jack to work with the factory main stand wedlmounts. I think he installed eye bolts in place of the “U” bracktes... then slid a shaft threw the weldmounts and the eyebolt... if you don’t have a lift tablet you can anchor an eyebolt to the concrete behind your bike and with it lifted on your modified jack tie the rear down to the eyebolt and it will lift the front...

most adjustable rear stands will work that are the rubber coated style. don't get one for spools unless you have those. If you get a front stand I recommend getting a head lift stand. makes changing the forks out a breeze! Pitbull makes some really nice stands, for a more budget option there is Venom which is OK. I have both. the head lift stand will require the correct size pin, depending on what kit you get you may have to buy an extra pin to work with your triple tree.

So why not simply re-install a center stand? With that you can not only easily check the oil level you also can work on the front or rear of the bike. The centerstand is the only thing needed to remove the rear wheel, swingarm, etc. , and only a bottle jack and the centerstand is needed to remove the front forks. Ed

A standard Kaw 1000 center stand can be fitted for service easily with just a rod put in place of the bolts.
Do what you need to do and then put bike back on side stand , remove rod / shaft to take off center stand
No muss no fuss
