I think at if any of us knew the answer for sure, we would all have a barn-full of them already, and the price would be off the page.

You guys will probably laugh at this, but I think the Harley-Davidson VRSC will become a desirable motorcycle in the future if not a collectable. No it wasn't a canyon carver, but in a straight line was pretty respectable. If I had the expendable cash flow I would buy an all stock late model, low miles VRSC and watch the market on them. They are in many ways a lot like our beloved Z's and Kz's. The hacks can now afford them and are doing their best to modify what wasn't a bad bike from the factory. I would also put the end of the line Buell's with the Rotax engine in the desirable arena with full potential of becoming a collectable. Oh what could have been .....

I have a bone stock, totally original in the garage with about 5000 miles on it. I'm just waiting.

Based on how many of them are being broken down for parts and sold on Ebay, you may not have to wait long. Mine has just 3700 miles on it, but someone let it sit outside for long enough that things got a little fuzzy and faded. Only mod is the terrible terrible sounding Yoshimura muffler. But it's carbon fiber, so that's cool right?

The Vrod is a non tradition Harley, several low mile bikes are on ebay, my guess is lost in time.

Yeah the V-Rod isn't a hot ticket item right now, but wait a few years. It was an interesting bike for Harley to produce, but they never took it where it needed to go. The engine was a marvel and was a joint venture between Harley and Porsche. The few that I rode were quite fast and the engines were well built. Unfortunately, H-D kept the power train in a chassis that was well suited for straight line riding, but little else. I had hoped H-D would morph the power train into a purpose built bike for police use, but that idea died on the vine. Sadly, the upper echelon at Harley failed to see a need to go to a performance based police motorcycle to compete with BMW.

Though there are some differences between the 1100 and the 1200, they all have the same weaknesses that the whole engine family has. Oil starvation at the number three main bearing when wheelied excessively or when laid down. If the bearing is going to fail, it usually does so fairly soon after being laid down. Also, the starter chain tensioner is weak, and if not replaced, can jam into the clutch and caus catastrophic failure.
On the other hand, most of the engines go many tens of thousands of miles with no problem at all.
