Fairly early Z1A and in good condition, but it looks like it needs a good cleaning still.  Look at the bolts holding the rear inner fender.  Weird that this bike has the warranty sticker on the right side of the tail piece.  I thought warranty only was extended to the first 6000 or so Z1's.
I have a couple of Z1B's restored, an '80 KZ1000LTD restored, a 1981 KZ550 restored and a 2008 KLR 650 for off road fun. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

I’m still learning, so experts pleas help. I have seen the LH side cover with a hole in the top. I always wondered why. This bike has a device protruding out of said hole. What is it please.

The chain oiler tank sat under the left sidecover.  The little black thing in the photo is the rate adjuster for the oil.  By the end of 1974 Kawasaki had heard a lot of negative comments about it so they switched to O-ring chain beginning with the Z1B.  However they didn't change the side covers until 1976.  The switch to O-ring chain required a surprising number of design changes.  They added a shoulder to the front sprocket and a spacer to the rear to move the chain out from the transmission cover.  Many people have used O-ring chain without the front sprocket with a shoulder and their transmission cover shows the wear marks.  I have a photo somewhere from my blue bike.  Another change people are not aware of is that the chain guard on the Z1B is a bit wider than on earlier models.  Some people are surprised when they buy a reproduction guard and the chain starts to wear holes in it.  I think the left side upper engine mount was also modified, but I've forgotten exactly how or why.

Bill,  you're knowledge on the Z1s is far greater than mine, however,  the little black knob extending out of the sidecover is actually the top of the dipstick to check the oil level in the tank.  The rate of flow is adjusted on the pump in the sprocket cover.

You're right, as usual.  Don't know why I wrote it that way.  That happens a lot nowadays.  By the way, the owner is another builder who doesn't know which way the swing arm bolt is installed.

Ok now I know who has been out bidding me. Like the guy or not he is a big reason many, many Kz’s are still on the road.

Thank you guys. So many times I had seen side covers either on the bike or sold alacarte with an empty hole. I knew KHI wasn’t saving pennies in plastic.

On the 1975 model, they actually saved lots of pennies by not changing the mold to eliminate the hole for one model year!
