Interesting machine! Very early Z1A. But it has some features normally only found on Z1's. The speedo is actually an early Z1 with the offset 20. But the tach is normally found on Z1A's and B's. The head nuts are Z1 style.

The description says it has replacement pipes but the stamp is clearly visible on at least one of them. Overall it looks in good shape.
I have a couple of Z1B's restored, an '80 KZ1000LTD restored, a 1981 KZ550 restored and a 2008 KLR 650 for off road fun. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

I actually have a very similar manual I was just getting ready to list. Mine has the same number on the back (99997-700), but it is the 1st Edition printed in November 1972. The cover is not loose on mine, missing the greasy fingerprints on the cover and inside the front cover has a Decimal Equivalents Chart, unit Conversion Chart and a list of Abbreviations.

Available to the first Forum member in the U.S. who PMs me and would like to deposit $ 57.00 in my PayPal account for the manual and Priority USPS Shipping. Shipping outside U.S. would have to be negotiated, I just found out how expensive it was to send things North of the border!
Nerdy, I hope this isn't your add, I sincerely apologize and will remove this post if it is!

Were the engines painted black on the very early Z1As? Looks like a pretty nice bike, will it reach reserve?

What Mike is referring to is a special tools manual he sent to me. Our plan was for me to pdf it and place a copy on the website for members to download. The manual has not yet arrived at my post office, but I'm hopeful it will be here this week.

>>>> Were the engines painted black on the very early Z1As?
Z1A engines are silver.
I owned this bike from 97 to 2007
The bike was listed on ebay a few weeks ago with photos from my back yard.
I saw the listing and sent a note.
How long have you owned the bike ?
Where did bike come from ?
It was a surprise to both of us.
The owner asked question and I sent this note, you may find it entertaining -

Marilyn and I went to local concerts in the 80's and 90's
We went one night and the place was packed, we did not have tickets.
We were standing there with twenty others.
Marilyn was sad, we're not getting in, wait a minute I say.
While we were standing there a guy comes out of the concert room, looks around, comes over and says do you want to come in?
Yes, come with me, never saw the guy before, he had seats in the second row.
His name Dean Johnson, became good friends. Helped him move from Kalamazoo to Lansing.
Went to Lansing couple times each year, mentioned randomly one day looking for Kawasaki Z1.
This was in the 90's before ebay they were very hard to find.
Couple weeks later Dean calls, found one, went to look, $500, I'll take it !
Few weeks later Dean calls again, found another one, went to look, $500, I'll take it !
The one you have came from Plainwell, sat in garage for years in Plainwell.
The other bike came from Grand Rapids, I still have it, title says September 1997.
Dean passed away years ago, sometime around 2000.
Good times from the past.

How cool is that? To find your old bike advertised for sale by accident!!!

Can you explain the speedometer? Was that original to the bike?

No worries whatsoever! I was poking around for old books on ebay and happened to see it. I've never owned a Z1. :)
