Motorcyclist Classics did a write up on a 1976 Rickman Kawasaki CR in January/February 2015. The article opened up with, "Nothing's ever perfect, even though it sure might look cool. At least, that's how Mike Vandertie feels about his 1976 Rickman Kawasaki CR," It was an interesting to read.
Here is a 1982 Kawasaki KZ1100 Shaft with 11K for $2500. Wonder aloud what a 1982 KZ1000J in similar condition would bring
Buell had finally gotten to the point of having a bike that could compete with the best of them when Harley decided to close the place down. Buell's with the Harley drivetrain were never noted for their reliability, but they weren't a bad motorcycle, but there were better choices for less money. It could be he irritated some at Harley, who owned majority percentage of Buell Motorcycles, when he began working with a different make engine, but the new engine is just what his bikes needed and really made for a world class motorcycle. The fact remains it is a really sad testament to motorcycle manufacturing history that Harley pulled the rug out from under Buell and closed it down allegedly for lack of profits, but then again Harley-Davidson has done a lot of really stupid things over the years.
The box looks original. The red label on the front has "0D" in brackets, indicating it was manufactured in April 1980. The top black writing is French..."Tete", meaning "head". I think it also says 1977 Kawasaki. If it goes for $500 it's a steal, as I hear the new ones are going for around $3,000.
I have a couple of Z1B's restored, an '80 KZ1000LTD restored, a 1981 KZ550 restored and a 2008 KLR 650 for off road fun. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.
Looks like the real McCoy to me. I bought two new heads back in the early 80's and they both came in the same type of box.
I do for sure remember the layer of cosmoline all over the valve seats and head gasket area!!!!
Thats a DEAL DEAL price too!!!!! Wish I had 500 extra bucks laying around and that would be mine for sure.
