C'est peut-être un problème de traduction.... Car à part sortir le moteur du cadre il te reste plus grand chose à démonter

Haha, oui, en effet.
Enfin bon, mon idée est que je demonte un peu, je nettoie, je repeints, je démonte un autre truc, je nettoie, je repeints etc... du coup ici je peints des bouts du cadre, un peu du moteur dans le cadre...
Bizarrement je n'ai pas trop peur, tout vient facilement, mais au bout du compte ça ressemble quand même à une explosion nucléaire...

Hi Marcel, I'm enjoying your progress. As far as the tail light goes, it depends which side of the lens the marks are present. The surface on the inside would be impossible. But if they are on the smooth outside surface, they should be able to be sanded out. No different than rehabilitating headlights. You start with course sandpaper and work up to a at least a 1500 or 2000 grit sandpaper. Preferably, using an orbital sander. Then hit it with a buffer using a medium polishing compound followed by a fine compound. At that point, it should look like normal again. The last step is to spray it with a good quality UV resistant clear coat. The other option is finding a good used replacement on eBay. If you can nab one for under 30 dollars you are ahead of the game. 

As far as the chain is concerned, The advise you go received from the members is sound. I tried reusing my old chain by using vinegar followed with a soaking in diesel. My front sprocket was in good shape but I installed a new rear sprocket. The chain stretched and ate away at both sprockets within 200 miles. I replaced the 630 chain with a new 530 x-ring and two new 530 matching sprockets. I prefer the lighter chain. Less un-sprung weight. The new modern 530 chains are stronger than the original 630's. Wishing smooth sailing with the rest of the project.

Awright, moving on, today was sunny in WA state so I launched into the painting of the engine block.
Had been working on masking stuff for the last few days, including wrapping the frame with plastic.

So, pretty happy with myself, this block gonna look real guuuuud.
Next is gonna be working on polishing these various covers to a mild shine. I'm not aiming for chrome mirror effect, rather for a simple clean shine with a slight vintage patina.
Luckily, I have an enthusiastic helper, my 9yr old girl.

What a great "helper" you have.  I fondly recall the days when my now grown kids you to be my helpers for jobs such as this.  Good memories.
 
Yep. I just ordered on Amazon a pack of kids' nitrile gloves so she can join in the polishing without floating in oversized fingers. We have twins - boy and girl - and somehow she is more into DIY workshop tinkering. All good.

Hi Marcel! Nice to see You saving that old Ltd.
I just had to pop in and say this - whatever You do, treat those exhaust like they were made of gold!
They are no longer available and restorers and collectors are already paying good money for even rusted exhausts like Yours.
If You can't fix them right away, put on a 4-1 system for now, and fix the old one, when time and opportunity. It is very relaxing winter work, actually. I use to have the radio on, a little heater owen for comfort, some coffee, and You're ready for a nice day in the garage.
I think the original 4 into two system looks far better than the aftermarket 4-1 ones. But I guess that's just my taste. At least when they look new or restored.
I'm restoring my 4-2 ones for my Z1000 ST(euro model), and I had searched for years and years. Finally found a fairly good looking set, but the chrome was totally gone!
So I have decided to strip the chrome, fix any dents and two tiny rust holes, and coat everything in black Cerakote ceramic paint. It will look almost like original GPZ exhausts.
I also noticed You asking about the fuel tap. Very smart of You, to buy a rebuild kit! And now, the tricky question: How is Your tank looking on the inside? Buy a small scope camera for Your mobile phone on ebay and find out. Only about 10.00 USD from china. In my opinion, my best investment in tools for my bikes - ever! If any rust is shown on the inside, wash with soap water, rinse with clean warm water, and pour in some phosphoric acid - devoted for this kind of work. Don't ever look for anything else to put in Your tank for rust removal. The acid takes care of all the rust, and leaves a thin layer of phosphates on the bare metal. This will protect Your tank for a very long time!
Anyway! It will be interestying to follow Your project. Hope You have most of the parts, or find them at reasonably fair prices. Good luck!

Il y a en France une société Restom qui propose des traitements complet pour les réservoirs rouillé.
Il est constitué d'un dégraissant puissant pour bien nettoyer les dépôts. Ensuite un acide qui élimine la rouille. Mais si on s'arrête là, la rouille reviendra aussitôt. Donc ensuite on applique une résine époxy spécial, où bien c'est de l'époxy basic je sais pas. Mais qui forme une couche uniforme sur toutes les surfaces intérieur du réservoir.

Le résultat est super même dans le temps !

I intend to keep the exhaust if I can, will get to that later...
Regarding teh fuel tank, I've done vinegar followed by Evaporust, and a misting of WD40 while I wait for the restoration to progress. Tank / rusty before / clean after:
