Matt, I have the right side mounting bracket, in good condition but not the rubber.  It's yours if you want it.

I'm heading out for a couple of hours.  I can post photos when I return.

HRM
I have several complete sets, thank you. Unfortunately non have rubber in good enough condition. I have a set of repop that might have to go on for now till I find the NOS, or a VGC OEM that I can replated.

Ok I’ve been chasing down parts, cleaning and detailing. Mostly getting up the nerve to start the lower engine assembly. It’s the real reason I’m procrastinating. Aslo I wanted most of the engine parts lined up so the lower won’t sit around unfinished to long. So I need some advice.

First off the front pegs have been resolved. Maybe a little to anal over them but it’s behind me Two NOS in the house.

Next I need advice on cam chain idlers. How much play is acceptable in the top idler? I will need axles, the (2) geared idlers (Kawasaki 12057-002), and the tensioner Assembly (Kawasaki 12048-001). Man for the size I have to say these are the most expensive engine parts.I have the rubber rectangular dampers, and the top idler dampers. I have taking a chance on used twice and bombed out twice.

I would not tolerate any noticeable play in the top tensioner.  I recently bought one OEM through Partzilla...yes...very expensive.  Many folk recommend Liska.
I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

Chugging along. This slow down is tough to handle, budget is wack. I’m not tossing in the towel just backing down on the per month purchasing.

Pistons are here. Middle cam gear idlers. Ring compressor (thanks to Dr. Gamma). Z1kzonly helped with the idler shafts. Just need to source a top cam chain gear and I thing I’m ready. Head is out at machine shop. Randomly tripped over an old school metric engine builder, and close, maybe 20 minutes ride. He’s doing the block also. Plan is to get the pistons and rings to him when I pick up the head. Might even get it running this season.
At some point I have get out my big boy pants and get over it and get the lower assembled. Just eating me up thinking and not going to get the cases sealed up right. Tossing the block and head on doesn’t scare me.

Anyone have concerns for the NOS K&L cam gears? Marty, I’ll get with you on PM. Thanks for the idler shafts.

Don't stress too much over sealing the crankcase.  Probably the most common mistake is too much sealer, (remember the amount you see squirt out on the outside is also on the inside) which can eventually dry up,  fall off into the oil pan and  potentially end up on the oil pump pickup screen. (it would take a LOT to cause a problem) The crankcase seam is well above the static oil level even it it is poorly sealed,  I think oil leaks are way more common on the top end.

I'll check and see what I have for top idler assemblies laying around,  pretty sure I don't have any more NOS.

This thing will be cherry whenever it gets done. Its funny how we get ourselves worked up (I'm stressing the top end more on my project). We shall see If I was wise doing the cases myself, but I had you all to help if (and when) I got stuck. With your attention to detail, I would think your capable of doing an outstanding engine assembly.

Mike, thanks. Here’s my torture list.
  • To much case sealer.
  • Wrong type of sealer. It was recommended that I use Loctite 518. But seems a version of 3bond is more common.
  • Getting sealer on the correct bolts.
  • Getting thread lock on the correct bolt.
  • Some bolts require both per FSM.
