Well not a lot to report, waiting on parts.
I would like to get some opinions on my custom integrated brake light blinker. I have found some that fill the whole okay but they don't quit it for me. Here is what I'm thinking




The RED KZR will be tail light/brake the arc on the outside will be split in half for blinkers. Ideally I would like to make it out of aluminum but I may have to fiberglass it instead.

Question:
How important is it to get the rear wheel exactly center. If a 1/2" front sprocket is good without an assist bearing but a 5/8" isn't. Can I just offset the rear wheel an 1/8". Will it really matter? This isn't a track bike by any means but I don't want it to handle incorrectly either. If offset of the rear wheel is allowed how much is the max offset before it affects handling

Mine is offset about 0.170" and I can't tell. Corners real well both directions, runs straight as an arrow with my hands off the bars.

lots of factory bikes are offset from the get go.

mine is offset 3/8's of an inch and i can tell no difference just like alan said

i think it is a bigger deal in peoples minds than in actual application.

My 1000 has a 5/8" offset front sprocket with no support and I've had no problems so far and the Gpz750 I'm building will be running 5/8" offset without a support too.. My 900 will have a 5/8" offset with a support but it's gonna have a nice built engine when I'm done.

EDIT: Kz1000 = 160mm tire (4.5" rim), Kz900 = 180-190mm extra sticky tire (6" rim) , Gpz750 = 170-180mm tire (5.5" rim).

Over the years I have swapped many different engines into frames they wern't made for. GPz1100 into a Gpz750 frame, GSXR 750 engine into KZ1000 frame, ect. When I get to the point of chain alignment I have always simply eye ball the chain from the rear wheel to the drive sprocket using a long straight wire for reference. I'm sure it's not perfect but it always works great. Bikes handle great and have no weird handling issues. I agree with 531blackbanshee, people tend to make a bigger deal out of it than it really is.

Any opinions on the tail light mock up I posted a picture of earlier? I thought about getting rid of the duck tail but it is too much of the KZ style to delete it.

I think the 03 ish CBR tail light might fit the bill. If I was doing my tail light over again that's what I would use. I saw a picture of one on a bike here on KZR and thought it looked real nice.

Thanks for that Alan. I actually have an integrated '01 Ducati light that fits just as well. I was just trying to go more custom. a lot of guys are doing the same mods I am so I like to invent a few one off items to keep some degrees of separation.



Comparing the two the Honda one does look to fit/fill better

Just a quick mock up.

As soon as I can figure out how to get the pivot bearings out of the swing arm to replace them I will be able to get my sprocket alignment figured out.

I am also debating making a custom rear duck tail out of aluminum. There are some cool things u want to do but I still want it recognizable as a KZ. It's why I have decided to go back to the single head light but with a super bright LED bulb.
