Hello!
I decided to put together a project build on this bike after seeing how much work I'll have to out in this.

As seen on Craigslist

Arrived at home!

Frame stripped and ready for powdercoat!

Engine is out! I ordered a complete gasket kit, but after some inspection/cleaning I won't be doing a tear-down on this.... yet.. ;)

Wheels.. yummy... to go for powdercoat and rubber soon

Box o' parts

Seat, recently re-covered, looks good.

Tank. Not bad, only 2 small dings. Really clean surprisingly.

Front forks

Bottom end of carbs, they all look like this... yech- rebuild kit is on the way. Floats still good somehow.

Good times ahead! I need to redo all electrical- anyone know of a replacement aftermarket instrument cluster?, brakes, handlebars/controls, basically I bought an engine and frame with most of the parts I cant buy aftermarket.
More to come!

Lots of work but well worth it in the end bro. I have a 82 1100 Spectre shaft bike. Where do your carb hoses connect? The fuel rail has three connections, seems the middle one goes to the gas tank, where do the other 2 go? Any help is appreciated, Stan

Welcome to KZR.
You need to pull some more parts from the carb body and get some rebuild kits.
Lots of cleaning there to be done.
Here is a link to a Factory Service Manual for you. www.kawiworld.com/index.php?option=com_c...icle&id=77&Itemid=99

Don't lose the black o-ring, pull the plug above the pilot jet and the jet, remove the needle jet/ emulsion tube, remove the inlet valve seat as there is a o-ring and filter screen there.
Soak and clean those babies real good.

only one hose on my carbs, there is a T connection between the middle two carbs, and gas is passed to the outer two carbs via a straight tube- the fuel rail essentially is built into the carbs.

Motor Head,

Thanks for the info. I have a paper version of the KZ1100 Shaft service manual on the way. Carb rebuild kits are on the way- cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=390541346223
Should have everything I need there.

Just dropped the frame off for powder, we'll see how it turns out. $200 to media blast and powder a frame, seems a bit much if you ask me.
Pros and cons of powder-coating the rest of the bike vs painting?

The pilot jet is seized in the housing, rebuild kits came with new pilot jets, can I just drill it out?

Will presuppose that the exposed head of jet has by now been sufficiently damaged to disallow normal grip with a screwdriver. But if not, would soak with Kroil or other penetrant (such as Liquid Wrench or ATF/acetone mix, etc.) for day or so which might help dislodge the screw.

Yes, it may be drilled out -- best to use a reverse-cut drill bit, and the jet will sometimes come right out while drilling.

Good Fortune! :)

Couldn't get a hold of a reverse-cut bit. Ended up drilling the center with a small bit, carefully tapping a small phillips bit into the jet, and it was just good enough to break it loose and remove it with no damage to the housing.

One down, 3 to go....
I hate being impatient :P

One more thing, the repair manual says to bottom out the pilot pin and count the number of turns it takes to do so, so you can set the new pilot to the same specs- of course I read this after I removed the pilot pin, is there any 'general' number I should go to? Should I just count the number of turns on another carb and go with that?
