One of the joys of owning a nearly 40 year old motorcycle is how perfectly good parts just seem to break from just sitting there!!!! I went to fire up the Superbike to take a few quick trips down the deserted roads near my house. As I was gently warming it up, I noticed one of the enrichment plunger plastic nuts rattling around on top of one of the outer carb enrichment plungers!!!! What the hell!!! I found that the plastic piece broke into two pieces. GREAT!!!! I had to disassemble the choke rod and the pieces that fit around the end of the enrichment plungers just to get to be able to replace that plastic nut!!! Its really nice having all the spare parts I need right in house!!! Thank God I didn't have to order ONE STUPID LITTLE PART. Two years ago I did have the carbs completely apart, and did have all the enrichment plungers and nuts out of the carbs. I must have over tighten that one nut just a bit more than the other three. Its really amazing that 2 years later that plastic nut decides to break into two pieces!!! Like they say, $hit happens!!!

Now back to taking a quick blast down a few roads!!!!

The low humidity in AZ really dries out plastic , grease too from what I remember.

Dr.Gamma : Have you or anybody else racing these oldies, ever run a CHT sensor and gauge? I Just installed one last week and used it during the DGR ride on Sunday, which was in stop and go traffic in Denver. It was around 90 degrees, and to my amazement the CHT never exceeded 340 degrees F. This is also normal temps when I'm cruising 90+. Typical temps are 325 to 345F. It doesn't run right until it hits around 250F. Right now it's on the right outboard spark plug. I'll move it inboard this weekend when I do some work on it.

Never ran anything like that on any of my bikes. I never noticed it on any of the vintage Superbikes that I looked at.

When I rode my Superbike on the street, I tried to stay away from any type of stop and go traffic. I can remember a few times where I shut my Superbike off and pushed it to the nearest side road to get away from stop and go traffic that I got stuck in!!!! I didn't need a gauge to tell me that my motor was getting a tad hot. With all the compression I ran, it didn't take too long before I could feel the heat waves rolling off my motor in stop and go conditions!!!!

Car tires out here only last a few years before they start major cracking across the whole tire!!!

Same with any type of house paint. Even the high end paints like Pratt & Lambert only last a year longer than the more common paints like Sherwin-Williams!!!

Hell in the summer out here, you can fry your bald head in less than a half hour or so!!!
