haven't been able to work on the bike for a few weeks, but i'm going to try and get to it tonight and do as you are suggesting Bique. Going to get the cover off and try to shave that seat down a little. Will post pics and such if I get to it.

Failing that, I'm thinking of ditching sheet metal and attempting fiberglass...

I bought a set of carbs from ebay for about 150 and salvaged the diaphragms from that, so I still have one good one for emergencies

Already posted an update on www.kz400.com but thought I might aswell update this thread with the new pics:

just a note on the pods, some of the cheap ones block the vacuum port that leads to the diaphram, sometimes you need to trim the rubber lip so that the ports are open. my cheapie EMGO were that way
