Hello to all,
My name is Jim and I am working on a 1978 KZ1000 with a 1973 "Tribute" paint scheme. The bike was stripped down to the frame and I had all the components I could powder-coated.
I purchased the tank, side-covers and tail all in a pre-painted kit from Z1 Parts. I quickly found out that the 73 side-covers won't work on the 78 frame so I had to paint 78 side covers to match the 1973 Rootbeer / candy color.
I also just purchased my next project a 1976 KZ 900 that will be taken apart and restored completely (I hope).
Looking forward to learning from you guys on here!

I see in your information that you have a Mr. Turbo Kit on your bike? My high school buddy's dad started that company and then sold it to Mr. Gasket. Thats who I bought the kit from in Ill. many moons ago.

Well the new project has started, it's a 1976 KZ 900 with a 1200 cc bore, 33 MM carbs, ARD magneto ignition, oil cooler. Engine has not run in over 20 years and and owner told me it may have some damage to the crank from the magneto. My plan is to return it to it's original Brown paint scheme and a stock 903 cc engine. Everything else seems to be very original and intact. I've already taken the tank to Redistrip to get chemically dipped as the inside was very crusty.
