I got the tank semi mounted. I had to cut the factory posts where the ears mount. I measured and drilled for new posts. I just have to weld them on and then weld on a piece to mount it to the rear mounting location. The tank fit really well and works with the stock seat. I was very nervous with this because the frame is already freshly powder coated. Time for some paint soon 😀

If i remember correctly, I had to cut roughly a 1/4” off the original tank mount studs so the kz1000 tank would clear them. They rubbed on the tank and prevented me from sliding the tank lower over the frame to get the correct fitment. In hindsight, I should have cut the original tank mounting tabs off, but I still wanted to be able to go back to the original tank if I wanted.

I read the build on your bike and decided to copy your tank idea. I was really glad you posted it and put it on this forum. The tank was easy to find, easy to mount, and fits the stock seat.
I too cut off the mounting tab, but cut it off right were the mount gets bigger, maybe an inch in total. I used a pencil and put it into the rubber bushing and put the bushing on the tank and just slid out the pencil to make a mark on some tape to locate the new tabs. I drilled a hole through the frame gusset and will probably just use one one piece of metal tube that goes all the way through both the gussets. Ill have to post some pics. Anyway, thank you for your build thread!
